About Me
I am a potter, art teacher, and dog mom. Residing in Asheville with my roots stemming from South Carolina. The coast, blue ridge mountains, and Bojangles are always calling my name.
I didn’t start my creative journey until after realizing nursing wasn’t my calling while in college and soon started pursuing what I actually enjoyed doing, and made my switch to art education. It was there that I rediscovered clay and specifically the pottery wheel and I never looked back. I have had moments of time, months even years, where my time creating has lapsed but the need to create always pulled me back in. While living in Texas I made it my focus, time and energy to create. During my weekdays I taught high school art, and spent my evenings in my studio, with my studio mate, Bo (my yellow lab), creating and developing my craft.
I do it for the process.
The process of creating with clay, seeing an idea go through so many stages and forms, and having a piece in the end that also has a functional purpose is what draws me in. Utilitarian pottery can be as simple as a mug that is part of your weekly rotation for your cup of coffee and can have a gathering aspect of bringing friends and family together over drinks or a good meal. I create these works to be part of these human experiences.
You will see a divide between the work I create. One half of me is drawn to the natural clay body, the beauty of it, and letting it speak for itself. The other half, being bold and making a statement with pieces I make.
